Little stories for growing up
A story from L'Om · La Canalosa

A little village.A world to grow into.

Among mountains, almond trees and country paths lies La Canalosa. And here, a little school accompanies great discoveries.

Our story begins very close to home.

At our school

The landscape comes into school too: going out, observing and asking questions is part of learning.

Watercolour illustration: a great elm on the hill overlooking the valley, the almond groves and the village of La Canalosa.
01 · Llavors · Seeds

Everything beginswith a seed.

Small, almost hidden. We care for it, we water it, and we leave room for everything it might become.

Curiosity is a beginning.

At our school

At L'Om, playing, touching and exploring open the door to the very first discoveries.

02 · Arrels · Roots

Before growing up,we learn to take root.

Beneath the soil, the first roots search for their place. There is growth you cannot see yet — and it holds up everything to come.

Feeling cared for. Daring to explore.

At our school

Trust, bonds and gentle guidance give every child a safe place to learn from.

03 · The first discoveries

A sprout.A brand-new question.

The earth opens and the first leaves appear. A small step, at its own pace. Like the moment something that seemed difficult starts to make sense.

Try. Get it wrong. Try again.

At our school

With materials you can touch and transform, learning happens through the hands and through experience.

04 · Tronc · Trunk

Every experiencemakes us stronger.

The sprout becomes a young trunk. It grows on its own roots: what we discovered yesterday helps us take the next step.

Learning is also built on the inside.

At our school

In Primary, individual work plans accompany each learner. Reading, writing and reasoning are built step by step.

05 · Branques · Branches

Questionsopen new paths.

From the trunk grow branches reaching for the light in different directions. Every discovery takes us a little further.

Creating is a way of thinking, too.

At our school

Art, woodwork, the school garden and the radio offer different ways to investigate, express yourself and work together.

✋ Tap the fruits on the branches to see real moments.

06 · Fulles · Leaves

Many leaves. One and the same tree.

The crown fills with life. Every leaf has its place, like every child at L'Om. We learn from each other and bring something of our own.

Discover our five communities.

At our school

Llavors, Arrels, Tronc, Branques and Fulles: five communities that give a name to the way we grow together.

✋ Tap the wooden discs on the tree to meet them.

The story continues at school

Here we learn.Here we grow.

This is our school: a white façade, blue windows and a playground full of possibilities. L'Om, the public Infant and Primary school of La Canalosa.

The story continues every day.

At our school

From the classroom to the playground, from the playground to the village paths: learning is part of life.

Montessori inspiration · Active learning

Montessori inspiration.Learning with your hands.

Montessori inspiration has its place at L'Om: hands-on materials, autonomy and respect for each child's rhythm. It blends with other approaches, with play and with project-based learning.

We learn with our own materials and without textbooks. In Primary, individual work plans help accompany each child's process.

  1. Touch to understand.Exploring with materials before moving to the abstract.
  2. Doing, with support.Trying things, making small decisions and trying again.
  3. Every rhythm has its place.A careful eye on each child's progress and needs.
School life

What we do.All the things we discover.

Some learning begins with a handful of soil, a piece of wood or a path waiting to be walked.

01 Families and children preparing the soil of the school garden together on a sunny day. Observe · Care · Wait
🌱 The school garden

One seed.A thousand questions.

Preparing the soil, planting and caring. In the garden, change is watched up close and caring becomes a shared task.

Here we learn to…

Observe nature's cycles, take on small responsibilities and discover where food comes from.

For curious eyesWhat does a seed need to wake up?+

Soil, water, light… and someone to care for it. We check every week in the garden — just like in the elm's story.

02 Two pupils wearing safety goggles saw a wooden board in the carpentry workshop, guided by an adult. Imagine · Measure · Build
🪚 The woodwork shop

Handscan think, too.

An idea starts taking shape on the workbench. Wood invites you to measure, try, build and try again — with an adult close by.

Here we learn to…

Give shape to an idea, explore measurements and materials, solve little problems and work together.

For curious eyesWhat could this little piece of wood become?+

A game, a lantern or a gift for the village charity market — here, ideas really get built.

03 A group of children dressed as explorers next to a wooden trail marker post. Walk · Listen · Discover
🧭 Out exploring

The classroom reachesall the way to the horizon.

La Canalosa's paths, the almond and olive trees and the mountain keep offering new questions. Our outings connect what we learn with the world nearby.

Here we learn to…

Look closely, find our way, notice changes in the landscape and care for our surroundings.

For curious eyesIf you walk slowly, what do you discover?+

Tracks, insects, almond blossom… Infants go out every week; Primary heads out whenever the landscape calls.

🎨 Art, words and play

There are many waysto tell an idea.

Drawing, inventing, listening to a tale or sharing a story. Art, the library and the school radio open different doors to expression.

Here we learn to…

Find a voice of our own, listen to other views and enjoy creating something together.

For curious eyesWhat colour would your day be today?+

Every answer counts. In the art room, a drawing can carry a real umbrella.

One tree, five communities

A place for each one.One school for all.

From the first discoveries in Infants to the end of Primary, the names of our communities remind us that growing up is a journey we share.

Growing up together

Families and school.Hand in hand.

We share questions, little victories and new ideas. The team accompanies the children; families take part in school life and bring their own perspective.
